I had a discussion recently with a friend who likes to travel over Christmas break. This friend has a job where December is actually her slow season so it is easy for her to take several weeks off at this time of year. As I chatted with her I wasn’t sure whether to envy her or feel sorry for her.
On one hand she has been to a lot of really awesome places such as Paris, Italy, and Bali, but on the other hand, one has to wonder if she isn’t missing out on the Christmas magic that can be found in your own home, wrapped up with family, friends, and tradition.
I thought about it a lot that evening as I wrapped what seemed like my hundredth gift while my husband struggled with the lights on the tree that wouldn’t stay lit. I looked at my ‘to do’ list for the next couple or weeks and wondered if running away to an exotic location for the holiday wasn’t a genius idea after all.
I will admit that the movie Christmas with The Kranks popped into my head as I considered how much easier it would be to simply skip the shopping, baking, decorating, and million and one other holiday obligations. But once the wrapping was done, and I was able to settle into my living room with a glass of wine and an old Christmas photo album, while I watched it snow outside my window, I realized I wouldn’t trade the warmth and comfort of home, for all the exotic locations in the world.
Comment below and let me know if given the opportunity to travel to an exotic location or stay home for the holidays, which you would choose? I will pick one person to receive a $20 Amazon gift card.
I would like to travel, but to somewhere even warmer than Southern California, which is quite chilly now.
Hello., Christmas is wherever you are and your sprit will follow. My husband is away for Christmas this year, that could have left me alone! However having the wonderful children I have my eldest looked at me, a month ago and said you are coming with us to PEI. Well as I said the spirit will follow you just have to let it in. So On the 24th we will be on the road, brightly wrapped packages all packed to be opened by bright eyed children on Christmas morning. So no matter how a situation may look, !!! you just have to BELIEVE ,, and it will be as you dream. P.S. I will be with both of my children for the Holidays
I have a very hectic job this time of year I most definitely want to spend Christmas at home not traveling.
There’s no place like home for the holidays! That being said, the one year old boxer just savaged our tree, knocking down many needles and chewing up a Baby’s 1st Xmas ornament of which “Santa” was particularly fond. The year we went to California for a family event right after Xmas was a lot of fun and “no one” attacked any of the trees out there!
Enjoy your blog and love your books.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
to you and your loved ones!
Love the mug. Thanks for a chance to win one.
If my family could go with me, we’d go to Scotland. If I am to travel alone, I would stay home to be with my family.
I would never want to spend Christmas anywhere else but home.
Never thought about travelling somewhere exotic for the holidays but if I did Alaska would be where I would want to go
I could never give up the chaotic Christmas with my family. I want my family near all the time!
If I had a chance to travel to an exotic place during the holidays I would definitely go and enjoy the heck out of it. I would take my sister with me and we would celebrate the holidays together just in a different place.
