Black Friday Yay or Nay

In my opinion trying to shop on Black Friday is nuts. However going out to the mall to people watch, have lunch, and maybe share a drink in the bar with good friends, is all kinds of fun. When I was younger and really wanted to take advantage of the sales I found the whole thing extremely frustrating. But now that I have learned the art of internet shopping and the number of gifts I must buy has decreased, I find that I actually enjoy the insanity of the crowds, loud music, long lines, and over stimulated children in the line to see Santa.

Of course in addition to people watching on Black Friday the weekend after Thanksgiving is also the weekend to trudge out into the forest and cut a tree. We’ll have pizza for dinner which we eat while stringing the lights, and the decorations will be added the following day.

And then if the kids are in town we’ll play in the snow and go snowmobiling on Sunday. The football game will be on in the living room and there will be plenty of snacks for those who choose to stay dry.

Disclaimer these photos are of Thanksgiving weekend in the past since I am writing this in advance of the actual Thanksgiving weekend. I hope you all have a fantastic holiday weekend doing the things you love with the people you love.

I don’t shop on Black Friday. Back in the early 80’s I went to a Zayres to get a cabbage patch doll for my daughter which was all the rage that year. The doors opened and people ran over each other to get to the dolls. I got one but a lady that was about 90 something had one in her hands and a guy in his 20’s shoved her to the ground and stole the doll out of her arms. My friend and I picked her up got her to a chair and I gave her the doll I had. A security guy walked her to her car. That one incident killed the Black Friday thing for me forever.

You sound like my husband when we used to go out to eat every weekend!! 🙂 While I enjoyed my delicious food he people watched and could tell me everything going on in the restaurant with everyone there! *LOL* He found it fascinating. I don’t miss the crowds or bargain hunting on Black Friday, I shop on the internet and have just as much fun!! Enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend with your loved ones..it sounds like a fun time will be had by all!! 🙂

I’ve went out on Black Friday once and while it wasn’t as crazy as I’ve heard it can be it was still too much for me. I don’t think I will ever do it again. As for the weekend we usually stay in and watch movies or listen to Christmas music. Hubby usually decorates either after I’ve went to bed or before I’ve gotten up since I’ve been having RA problems. It’s nice to go into the living room and everything be up and pretty.

I’ve only shopped on Black Friday once and it was in 2000. I have yet to repeat that craziness again. I just can’t handle it. But to each their own. The last several years my shopping list gets smaller and I start throughout the year. When I see something I grab it and hang on to it until Christmas. I was done last week except for one gift that I can get anytime before Christmas so I’m just bummbed I can’t really go do anything because of the crowds. I usually start writing the Christmas cards envelopes addresses and read.

We don’t shop on Black Friday. The last few years I have essentially purchased everything online, often ahead of the holiday season if an item was at a significant discount. This year we’ve been watching Hallmark movies. Tom and I didn’t have a traditional dinner either. Annalies was invited to a friend’s house and Kristen was in VS with her boyfriend’s family (she returned home today). Having her home is the greatest blessing!

I ventured out to our local Walmart to get something my grandson really wanted and by the time I found it they were all gone. I’ve never seen such rude people in my life , the gal in front of me was on the phone to her hubby in another store holding up the line while she saw if he got it. Next day I was talking to a coworker whose hubby worked there and she said there where pallets in the back they wouldn’t sell till Black Friday was over. Never again ever.
